Mardi Himal Trek is a challenging and wonderful 4-day trek in the Annapurna region that offers breathtaking views of the snow-capped mountain range. So, to conquer this amazing natural beauty we three Khanals; Pradeep, Purusottam, and me, Nirav, commenced our trek in gloomy, wet, and drizzling weather from Pokhara on 13th Dec at around 4 PM. We decided to start our trek from Dhampus, which was one of many routes to Mardi Himal Trek.

Here is the complete video of the Winter Mardi Himal Trek

Mardi Himal Winter Trekking 2076

Mardi Himal Trek Day 1, 13th DEC

We took a jeep from Milan Chowk, Pokhara to Dhampus. Getting off the jeep after two and a half hours of travel, we could notice a small Bazar like area which was Dhampus. As it was already dark, we could see a variety of bright dazzling lights, that were lit to attract tourists to their Hotels. But, ignoring all those attractions we walked through the muddy road, resulted from the continuous rain for the last 3 days. We were ecstatic to see the amazing view of Pokhara and nearby small towns on the way. The route wasn’t entirely good but seemed decent enough to walk.

After walking around thirty minutes from Dhampus we reached Pothana; our destination for Day 1.

We had an excellent dinner, especially the Local Ghee was special. We met a Swiss Tourist and her guide there and had a friendly conversation being warmed by the Local Chulo; firing dry woods. Afforded lodging facilities were actually quite good, but the concern was it was pouring down heavy the whole night with few thunderstorms. We were in doubt if we could commence our trekking early morning the next day.

Mardi winter Trek DAY 2, 14th DEC

To our much delight, the rain had settled; clouds were beginning to fade away and the sun was rising to shine. Energised by the clearing weather we backpacked our bags, filled our water bottles, took a few photos and started the trek for the day.

After forty-five minutes of walking, we reached Deurali, where the scenario of mountains was marvellous. Utilizing the waiting time for Breakfast we captured some pleasant views.

After having the heavy breakfast, we walked further to find the hills and routes covered with snow. We were amazed to see this snow as it was our first trek on snow.

We reached Rest Camp on the evening of Day 2. It was here where we found the real beauty of snow on the Mountain.

Mardi Winter Trek DAY 3, 15th DEC

Waking the next morning was a realization of the Nepali song “बिहान उठ्ने बित्तिकै हिमाल देख्न पाइयॊस “.Hence, the perfect way to unfold the day, which befell to be the best day on the trek. After having breakfast we began the day walking on the snow; which was a little tough than what we sensed it would be like, to be honest. Sun rose to shine which meant the snow began to melt. Thus, making the trail slippery and risky. Enjoying the mesmerizing views and walking in the dense snow for around 4 hours, we arrived at Low Camp, where we had our lunch.

Strolling through the snow & enjoying the majestic snow-capped landscapes with the surreal feeling among us; we reached the High Base Camp at around 3 in the day. The faith in the youngsters’ suggestion to stay at Peace Mountain Hotel; did pay dividends, as we had a fabulous time at the hotel in High Base Camp. We tasted the Yak’s Meat and the Ghee for the very first time. We did have a few drinks together with the hotel owner with tasty wild honey and even barbeque. View of Landscape, snow-capped mountains and sightseeing justified it was next to heaven if heaven ever existed. And, with that, we can proudly declare Nepal is truly a Heaven.

Mardi Winter Trek DAY 4, 16th DEC

Sunrise Mardi Trek

Waking up to the sunrise was just the most satisfying scene I had witnessed in a long long time (Can be seen in the above video). We were excited to go to the top but as it was heavily snowing for the past few days, people were reluctant to go to the view tower; so were we.

With bright grain-sized snow sparkling our eyes, we along with fellow trekkers decided to climb as far as we could. Unfortunately, we were incapable to go to the view tower but nonetheless, we witnessed what the attraction and true beauty of Snow and Mountain really is. Paragliding was yet another magical moment that was the icing on the cake to arguably the best Trekking in my Life to date.
